With virtual production, filmmakers hope to shift from a ‘fix it post’ to a ‘solve it in prep’ approach, requiring new skills and ways of collaborating across all departments. The virtual art department (VAD) is one such example, helping to bridge the work of a traditional art department and a regular previs department through real-time animation.
In this session, Felix Jorge, CEO, Creative Director and Co-founder of world-leading Virtual Art Studio Happy Mushroom, will explain the concept of ‘virtual pre-production’ and the role of the Virtual Art Department, why the VAD is pivotal for virtual production, how VAD teams work with the production designer to complement traditional art teams (and other departments), and how they fit in the production workflow from pre-production through post.
